Last Christmas one of my sisters got me one of those metal wine tumblers that are so popular right now. Though I typically don’t drink much wine (liquor is more my jam), I love using that tumbler. It fits well in my hand, keeps my drinks cold, and there’s no danger of me breaking it. However, my hand can also get a little chilly if I have an iced drink in there. So I decided it was time to solve that problem by designing a free knit pattern for a wine tumbler koozie.
The first version did not wrap around or have a bottom. That was not a well thought out plan. Wine tumblers tend to be fairly slippery. Without an anchor, it kept sliding every time I tried to use it. Plus, it was a little too loose anyway. I went back to the drawing board, reduced the number of stitches, and added a bottom. My test knitter, Beth, whipped it up quickly. And I am so happy with the result of my free knit pattern.
I did not want a bulky koozie, so I chose a DK weight yarn that I already had on hand. It was originally purchased for fingerless gloves, like my Pixie Fingerless Gloves paid knit pattern.
